You're a Star

Here’s my card for this week’s Viva la Verve sketch and inspiration challenge. It almost didn't get posted today due to some big technical issues. I woke up this morning to a torrential rain storm. I got in the shower to get ready for work and while I was rinsing the shampoo from my hair, the power went off--and stayed off. This meant I had to go to work with soaking wet hair. Great way to start the day, huh?? When I got home after work, the power was still off. I was packing up my things and just about ready to herd Chloe the cutie puppy into the car to head to cooler ground (my parents' house a few miles away had power) when the power went on almost 12 hours after it went off. Hopefully this will be the last extended power outage of the summer . . .

So, here's tonight's card that almost wasn't. I took my inspiration from the bedspread in one of the inspiration photos. I used the photo’s colors and star image in my card. For my focal image I stamped a sentiment made by combining some of the words and phrases from the Starstruck set. I added a layered star to the panel using foam tape. To add interest to the star element, I paper pierced around the edges and added a metal brad at the center.

As I was deciding what to do for the three strips that run across the card, I remembered that I had some star patterned American Crafts ribbon in my stash that I knew would be just perfect for embellishing them. Fortunately, I did not have to look through (or disrupt) too much stuff to locate the ribbon . . . I attached the ribbon to slightly wider navy strips, then set the strips on a red panel. I layered the red panel on a navy one, then on a white card base (easier to write on).

Materials Used:
Starstruck stamp set (Verve Stamps); Night of Navy Classic ink, Riding Hood Red and Night of Navy cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); white cardstock (Georgia Pacific); star ribbon (American Crafts); star dies (Spellbinders); star brad (Making Memories); foam tape

  1. Love how well the card came together -- especially after such craziness. So coordinated in the colors - amazing that the ribbon went just so with the rest of the card. Love the paper pierced edge of the star.
