Blogger Challenge: Week 178/Friends with Flair

This week’s blogger challenge is a theme challenge. I went mostly monochromatic with touches for brown for my card, combining images from Unity with this week’s Mojo Monday sketch.

I used one of the leaf images from Unity’s August Stampin’ Store Kit, Harvest of Memories, as my focal image. The leaf is stamped in brown ink on a gold panel. I layered it on a slightly darker mustard panel.

I used patterned papers from two different lines—actually, from two different companies—for the tilted panel on the cardfront. The larger panel is from the new Cosmo Cricket Circa 1934 mini deck. The more vintage look and feel of these papers isn’t my usual style, but they’re so pretty that I’m going to challenge myself to work with them. I used my sewing machine to zig zag stitch around the edges of the panel for a nice finish. The strip at the top is a scrap from Basic Grey's Max & Whiskers line. I used a dark brown decorative edged strip to break up the two pieces. A piece of brown faux suede ribbon is wrapped around the panel and tied at the side with some dark brown burlap rope. The sentiment is stamped just above the ribbon.

I covered the cardfront with a grid patterned piece of kraft paper--just enough pattern to add interest without competing with the tilted panel. After attaching the panel to the cardfront, I used dimensional dots to layer on the image panel.
