Get on Board the Birthday Express

My best friend’s little boy turns 4 today (wow—that was fast!), so I needed to make a special card to celebrate the occasion. Since his invitations were train-themed, I ran with that for my fun card.

I used the train image from Unity’s Sketchy Little Boy kit as the focal image and built a simple scene around it. I colored the train with Copic markers and carefully cut it out, then set it aside while I assembled the rest of the pieces. Two papers from Echo Park’s Little Boy Collection Kit make the sky and grass. I machine-stitched them to a Pumpkin Pie panel for a more finished look. I cut two clouds from white felt and stamped the “happy birthday” sentiment from the Sweet Birthday Celebration kit on the clouds. I used Palette ink here—I find it works best when stamping on fabrics or ribbon. The stamped clouds are attached to the scene using redline tape.

I went back and stamped the train image on the scene, then added my already colored and cut out one to the panel with dimensional dots. I filled in the centers of the wheels with a little silver Liquid Pearls and covered the train’s window with Glossy Accents for a glassy look. A simple button/textured ribbon combination at the left side of the card completed the scene. I think Zach will like the card, but I have a feeling his mom will like it even more—LOL!
