Ahoy!

This week’s TCP Tuesday challenge is to go retro and use one of the past TCP challenges. I sort of cheated on this one, pulling a card from my very recent Paper Crafts magazine rejects pile, but I thought it was too cute not to share. The card actually does fit one of the previous TCP Tuesday challenges--#121 to show off your CutUps dies--so I have a good reason to share it today.

I was inspired by sketch #56 to make a watery scene using the wave CutUps die and the Whale of a Time set—they’re a perfect pair! I made layered waves using two pieces of dotted patterned paper that I cut using my wave die. The bottom piece is attached directly to the aqua panel and the top piece is attached with some foam tape for a little dimension.

I paper pieced the whale image using a paper with a smaller scale dot pattern. He’s nestled in the waves using more foam tape. I added some felt clouds to the sky to fill in the open space and add some texture. For a sentiment, I used foam Thickers to spell out “ahoy” along the bottom of one of the wavy panels. It may not have made the cut for the magazine, but I still think it's pretty cute!

Materials Used:
Whale of a Time stamp set, CutUps wave die (The Cat’s Pajamas); white cardstock (Taylored Expressions); Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko); markers (Copic); Real Red and Baja Breeze cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); patterned paper (Echo Park); cloud die (Papertrey Ink); Thickers foam letter stickers (American Crafts); foam tape; white felt
