Nautical Birthday

Here's my card for the current Fusion challenge.  I combined the sketch with the photo's nautical theme and color scheme to create my card.

Nautical Birthday Card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from Paper SmoochesI used my favorite nautical themed stamp set, Wicked Nauticool from Paper Smooches, for my card.  The set's sailboat image was colored with Copic markers in shades of blue and gray, then cut out with the matching die.

I used a pale gray panel for my background.  I added a strip of navy striped paper, edged with a very narrow navy cardstock strip, to bring in the striped element from the largest letter in the inspiration photo.  After placing a solid navy cardstock strip from my scrap pile across the panel, I added the boat on top, using foam tape for dimension.  The "happy birthday" sentiment from the Bosom Buddy set was stamped in navy ink on a narrow gray cardstock strip and positioned beneath the boat.  The traditional typewriter style font of the text seemed like a nice way to bring in the fun font element from the inspiration photo.  The finished panel was adhered to a navy card base.

Materials Used:
Wicked Nauticool and Bosom Buddy stamp sets, Nauticool dies (Paper Smooches); Memento Tuxedo Black and Nautical Blue inks (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); markers (Copic); Night of Navy cardstock (Stampin' Up!); Grout Gray cardstock (My Favorite Things); Warm Heart 6x6 paper pad (Reverse Confetti); foam tape
