Creating with Colorblocking

For this month’s i {heart} papers design team challenge, we’re showcasing the colorblocking technique. I went a little non-traditional by using patterned papers instead of solid for my colorblocking, but I still like how it turned out.

I used subtly patterned papers from two different manufacturers—Echo Park’s Springtime line and My Mind’s Eye’s Lime Twist-Happy Go Lucky—for my colorblocked panels. After attaching them to a pink panel, I used dimensional dots to attach the dress form sticker from the Little Girl Collection kit over the squares. I love the paper collection kits that give you a sheet of every paper from a single line. You can mix and match and sample everything that way! But, I often find that at the end of the pack, I have the coordinating stickers and die cuts left over—as a stamper, I just don’t tend to reach for them first. So, I decided I’d include one of those neglected items here on my colorblocked project. And, just a little hint—to remove some of the “sticky” from the sticker, I gently patted the adhesive with my embossing buddy to lessen the tackiness. It made it much easier to work with the sticker.

After the dress form was in place, I wrapped a piece of pink satin ribbon around the panel and dressed it up with a little bow. I stamped the “you’re sew lovely” sentiment from Lawn Fawn’s Sew Lovely set just above the bow and added a trio of pearls to the panels as an accent.

Be sure to check out what the rest of the IHP DT has created using colorblocking. Here’s where you can find them:
