Color Throwdown 818-Fall Birthday

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Lynn is our hostess this week with a mix of earthy colors--orange, moss, and cranberry.

Fall Birthday Card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from Papertrey Ink
I paired the colors with the current challenge from Sketch Saturday to create a fall birthday card. My focal image is a tag cut from kraft cardstock and dressed up with a pair of stamped leaves from Papertrey Ink's Autumn Acorns stamp set at the bottom and a pretty cranberry ribbon at the top. I stamped the "happy birthday" from one of PTI's Keep It Simple sentiment sets on the tag in brown ink before placing it on a cranberry card base topped with a strip of plaid patterned paper.

To play along, just create a paper crafted project using these colors as a starting point and add a direct link to your finished project using the linky tool found at the end of this week's CTD post.  As always, if you don’t have exact color matches, something close works just fine. Just be sure that the challenge colors are the dominant ones in your project. And, if you upload your project to an online gallery, use the keyword CTD818. If you upload your projects on social media, go ahead and use the hashtag #ctd818 and #colorthrowdown.  You can find us on Instagram and on Facebook with the username colorthrowdown.  Before you get started, here’s some inspiration from the talented Color Throwdown team. We're excited to welcome Tammy back to the team today, so be sure to stop by to check out her design.

Color Throwdown 721-Peace Love Joy

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Amy Rysavy is our hostess this week with a pretty mix of colors--coral, silver, pine green, and white

Peace Love Joy card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from Papertrey Ink
The layout for my design is based on the current challenge at The Paper Players. I used a shimmery white dove, created with a die from Papertrey Ink's Peace Be Still die cut, as the center of my focal panel. The dove was adhered over a pair of dark green leafy branches on a shiny silver panel using foam tape for dimension. I added a clear self-adhesive crystal colored black with a Copic marker as an eye. After matting the panel on black cardstock, I adhered it to a coral card base. The "peace love joy" sentiment from PTI's Fillable Frames #8 set was stamped just beneath the panel in dark green ink. It looks black in the photo, but I promise it is green!

And, if you upload your project to an online gallery, use the keyword CTD721.  If you upload your projects on social media, go ahead and use the hashtag #ctd721 and #colorthrowdown.  You can find us on Instagram and on Facebook with the username colorthrowdown.  Before you get started, here’s some inspiration from the talented Color Throwdown team and this week's Guest Star Stamper.

Color Throwdown 719-Leaf Prints Trio

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Vickie is our hostess this week with a mix of colors inspired by a gorgeous cake---red, orange, brown, and yellow.

Leaf Prints Trio card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps from Papertrey Ink
The layout for my design comes from the current challenge at Sunday Stamps. I represented the layout's trio of round elements with maple leaves stamped with an image from Papertrey Ink's Leaf Prints stamp set. After carefully cutting the leaves out with a sharp pair of scissors I used foam tape to arrange the leaves on a strip of brown cardstock. The strip was adhered to a piece of red dotted patterned paper on a coordinating red card base. The thank you sentiment from the Gobble, Gobble stamp set was stamped on a narrow brown cardstock strip in brown ink, then adhered to the bottom right side of the cardfront.

And, if you upload your project to an online gallery, use the keyword CTD719.  If you upload your projects on social media, go ahead and use the hashtag #ctd719 and #colorthrowdown.  You can find us on Instagram and on Facebook with the username colorthrowdown.  Before you get started, here’s some inspiration from the talented Color Throwdown team and this week's Guest Star Stamper.

With Sympathy

With Sympathy card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps from Papertrey Ink
Here's my card for the current challenge at Freshly Made Sketches. I filled in the two diagonal corners with a leafy branch from Papertrey Ink's Turning a New Leaf stamp set. The image was stamped in green pigment ink on the pale green cardstock square. For contrast I added a pale pink bloom from PTI's Everyday Classics set to each branch. The "with sympathy" sentiment from the Keep It Simple: Sympathy stamp set was stamped in the center of the panel in the same green ink I used for the leaves. The finished panel was adhered to a darker green card base matching the color of the leaves and sentiment.

Materials Used:
Turning a New Leaf, Everyday Classics, and Keep It Simple: Sympathy stamp sets, Spring Moss and Simply Chartreuse cardstock (Papertrey Ink); Memento Luxe Angel Pink ink (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); Lemon Grass pigment ink (Avery Elle)

Keeping Christmas-November 2020

It's time for the November Keeping Christmas blog hop! Kelly Lunceford started this many months ago and eventually the former team of "The Challenge" designers came to be a part of it.  We share holiday cards and projects with you on the 25th of each month to show you different ideas, techniques or projects to help you get a jump start on your holiday cards and tags for the coming year.  All of the designers have projects to share with you today. You'll find a list of the participating designers at the bottom of my post so you can stop by and admire their creativity while collecting some ideas for your holiday card creating.

'Tis the Season to Be Jolly card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps from Paper Smooches
The layout for my design comes from the current Mojo Monday sketch.  The sketch was perfect for the large shimmery white snowflakes I created with the Paper Smooches Huge Snowflakes dies.   The flakes were positioned at the top of a warm and cozy plaid patterned paper panel.  For even more sparkle and shine, I dotted with the center of each flake with a clear crystal.  I adhered a kraft strip, edged along the bottom with a narrow strip of gold foil cardstock, beneath the flakes.  The panel was wrapped with red seam binding and secured with a simple knot.  I stamped the "'tis the season to be jolly" sentiment from the Papertrey Ink 'Tis the Season Sentiments set in red ink on a white circle. The circle was matted on a slightly larger red circle, then placed on the kraft panel to complete a visual triangle on the cardfront.  The finished panel was adhered to a red card base matching the mat beneath the sentiment panel.

Don't miss what the rest of our team has created to inspire you to get a head start on your holiday card making!  There is a lot of inspiration and ideas to get your creative juices flowing.  Here's where to find the team members:

Color Throwdown 616-Thinking of You

It's time for another Color Throwdown!  Lisa is our hostess with a warm and earthy mix of colors-kraft, cream, and cranberry.

Thinking of You card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from Papertrey Ink
I paired the colors with the current Fab Friday challenge.  I created a leafy fobal image using a branch from Papertrey Ink's Turning a New Leaf stamps and dies and a flower from PTI's Beautiful Blooms II stamp set. For the flower centers, I used cranberry red buttons threaded with kraft twine--something I haven't done in a long time!  The pieces were adhered to a cream panel that I edged with a narrow cranberry scalloped strip. I adhered the panel to the right side of a kraft cardstock panel. The "thinking of you" sentiment from the Asian Fusion set was stamped on a cream panel.  After matting it on cranberry cardstock, I adhered the text to the panel using more foam tape.  The finished panel was adhered to a cranberry card base to match the blooms on the branch.

And, if you upload your project to an online gallery, use the keyword CTD616If you upload your projects on social media, go ahead and use the hashtag #ctd616 and #colorthrowdown.  You can find us on Instagram and on Facebook with the username colorthrowdown.  Before you get started, here’s some inspiration from the talented Color Throwdown team and this week's Guest Star Stamper Shawna Standish.

With Sympathy

With Sympathy card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps from Papertrey InkHere's my card for the current challenge at CAS(e) this Sketch.  I used the layout to create a simple sympathy card using stamps from Papertrey Ink.  The large leafy branch from PTI's Turning a New Leaf set was stamped in green pigment ink in the lower right corner of the light green panel.  To fill out the panel, I added a few pale pink flowers to the branch using an image from the Everyday Classics set. The "with sympathy" sentiment from the Keep It Simple: Sympathy set was stamped in white pigment ink on a vellum strip and heat embossed in white to stand out.  I folded the vellum strip around the panel, which let me hide the adhesive I used to secure the panel.  The finished panel was adhered to a very pale pink card base to match the soft pink of the blossoms.

Materials Used:
Turning a New Leaf, Everyday Classics, and Keep It Simple: Sympathy stamp sets, Spring Moss cardstock, (Papertrey Ink); Lemon Grass and Orchid pigment inks (Avery Elle); Memento Luxe Wedding Dress ink (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); Rose Petals cardstock, Snow embossing powder (Recollections); white vellum (The Paper Company)

Autumn Thank You

Autumn Thank You card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps from Papertrey Ink
Here's my card for the current sketch at CAS(e) this Sketch.  My take has a fall look and feel thanks to the large maple leaf images from Papertrey Ink's Leaf Prints stamp set that I placed at opposite corners of the cream panel. The leaves were stamped in a rust colored ink and the veins and stem were stamped in brown ink.  The panel's edges were inked with Antique Linen distress ink and I used my old Stampin' Up! Color Spritzer and a brown marker to make soft sprays of brown dots around the leaves. The "thank you" sentiment from the Botanical Silhouettes stamp set was stamped to the left of the lower leaf in brown ink. The finished panel was adhered to a rust colored card base to coordinate with the leaf images.

Materials Used:
Leaf Prints and Botanical Silhouettes stamp sets, Canyon Clay cardstock  (Papertrey Ink); Memento Potter's Clay and Rich Cocoa inks, Rich Cocoa marker (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); Antique Linen distress ink (Ranger); ink spritzer tool (Stampin' Up!)

Floral Friend Hello

Here's my card for the current challenge at Global Design Project.  I used elements from the inspiration card, including a similar layout, watercolored elements, a floral image, and gold accents to create my design.

I don't watercolor frequently--not my medium of choice, but I stretched myself a bit for this. The large flower from Papertrey Ink's Friends 'Til the End stamp set is my watercolored focal image. The image was stamped in black and heat embossed, then colored with Clean Color markers and a water brush.  I did the same for the golden yellow leaf, then fussy cut both images.  I used foam tape to adhere them to the left side of a panel of watercolor paper brushed at the center with an irregular strip of pale pink watercolor wash.  Part of the flower was trimmed off to make the image even with the panel's edge.  I used a die from PTI's Turning a New Leaf set to cut a leafy branch out of gold foil cardstock. The leaf was tucked beneath the raised flower.  I stamped the set's "hello friend" sentiment to the right of the flower in black and heat embossed the text, too.  A trio of gold sequins were arranged around the image as a simple accent. The finished panel was adhered to a berry card base to coordinate with the bold floral focal point.

Materials Used:
Friends 'Til the End stamp set, Berry Sorbet cardstock, Turning a New Leaf dies (Papertrey Ink); Memento Luxe Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); Spun Sugar and Worn Lipstick distress inks (Ranger); Clean Color markers (Zig); Black embossing powder (Stampin' Up!); Gold Foil cardstock (Recollections); gold sequins; foam tape

Peace Love Joy card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from Papertrey InkI used the current sketch from The Paper Craft Crew and some leftovers from a holiday card design I mass produced years ago for this simple, easy to reproduce design.  The "leftover" is the white die cut felt dove.  I used it as the focal image in my design, adhering it to a pink panel over a silver double ended banner strip and a piece of red plaid washi tape.  The dove was accented with a small silver snowflake, rescued from my scrap pile and  dotted with a clear crystal at the center. I stamped the "peace love joy" sentiment from Papertrey Ink's Fillable Frames #8 stamp set to the right of the dove in red ink, then adhered the panel to a red card base to finish the design.  Now that I look at it again, I think I'd like it better if the dove had a clear crystal for its eye, so I may go back and switch it out...

Color Throwdown 594-One-of-a-Kind Friend

It's time for another Color Throwdown! Amy Rohl is our hostess this week with a fabulous mix of colors--yellow, gray, and white.

One--of-a-Kind Friend card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps from Papertrey InkI paired the colors with the current Fab Friday Challenge.  The layout's large panel was perfect for the pretty pair of flowers from Papertrey Ink's Daydreamer stamp set.  I inked the stems in gray and stamped them on the panel. The flowers were inked in two shades of yellow using the "rock and roll" technique, then stamped at the tops of the stems.  I matted the stamped panel on gray cardstock and adhered it to the center of a golden yellow card base. I probably should have gone with a more mustard-y shade of yellow to more closely match the inspiration photo...The "one-of-a-kind friend" sentiment from PTI's Friends 'Til the End set was stamped in gray ink on a golden yellow fishtail flag strip.  I matted it on a slightly larger gray strip before placing it at the bottom of the image panel.  A simple piece of knotted gray satin ribbon secured to the right side of the sentiment panel completed the design.

And, if you upload your project to an online gallery, use the keyword CTD594If you upload your projects on social media, go ahead and use the hashtag #ctd594 and #colorthrowdown.  You can find us on Instagram and on Facebook with the username colorthrowdown.  Before you get started, here’s some inspiration from the talented Color Throwdown team and this week's Guest Star Stamper Angie Cimbalo.

Flying by to Say Hi

Here's my card for the current sketch at CAS(e) this Sketch.  I used stamps from Papertrey Ink for this simple design.

Flying by to Say Hi card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps from Papertrey Ink
I started my card on a light blue cardstock panel. The layout's row of connected circles is represented here by a cloud border die.  My clouds were cut from shimmery white cardstock to add interest to the element.  I adhered the border strip directly to the bottom of the light blue panel, trimming the edges of the border strip to be flush with the panel's edges.  I stamped the airplane from PTI's Little Hot Rod stamp set in red ink on a matching die cut piece, then used foam tape to adhere the plane over the cloud strip.  The set's "flying by to say hi" sentiment was stamped beneath the clouds in navy ink.  I matted the panel on navy cardstock, then adhered it to a red card base that matches the color of the plane image.

Materials Used:
Little Hot Rod stamp set, Little Hot Rod dies (Papertrey Ink); Memento Lady Bug and Nautical Blue inks (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); Bashful Blue cardstock (Stampin' Up!); Red Punch and Navy cardstock (Recollections); Crystal Stardream cardstock (The Paper Cut); Cloud Border die (The Cat's Pajamas); foam tape

Merci

Here's my card for the current challenge at Global Design Project.  I incorporated several elements from the inspiration design into my card, including the Eiffel Tower image, the script text background, and the thank you theme.

Merci card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud
My Eiffel Tower is a die cut from My Favorite Things.  I cut the tower from silver cardstock and used foam tape to adhere it to a text patterned paper panel with a torn edge.  For interest, I inked the torn edge of the panel and some of the rest of the panel with pink distress ink and distress oxide.  It took me a while to locate a "merci" sentiment in my collection.  I finally found one in Papertrey Ink's Sentiment Signs stamp set.  I selectively inked just "merci" in silver ink and stamped it on a rose stitched sentiment strip, then heat embossed the text in silver before positioning it on the panel with one end tucked beneath the raised tower die cut.  I accented the tower with a small rose heart adhered to the opposite side of the tower with more foam tape.  The torn panel was adhered to a pale pink cardstock panel, then layered on to a rose card base to match the color of the sentiment strip and heart accent.

Materials Used:
Sentiment Signs stamp set (Papertrey Ink); Delicata Silvery Shimmer ink (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide and Spun Sugar distress ink (Ranger); Regal Rose and Pink Pirouette cardstock (Stampin' Up!); Silver cardstock (Recollections); Paris Girl 6x6 paper pad (Carta Bella); silver embossing powder (Hero Arts); Eiffel Tower, Stitched Sentiment Strips, and Staggered Heart Border dies (My Favorite Things); foam tape

Color Throwdown 579-Love Always

It's time for another Color Throwdown!  Vickie is our hostess this week with a floral inspired color combination-dark blue, light blue, pink, and white.

Love Always card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps from Papertrey Ink
I paired the colors with the current sketch at CAS(e) this Sketch for a clean and simple love themed design.  I arranged a trio of wide patterned paper strips on a white cardstock panel.  For the element at the center of the cardfront, I die cut a stitched heart from pink cardstock.  The heart was adhered over the patterned panels using foam tape.  For the sentiment, I used Papertrey Ink's Wonderful Words: Love die to cut the word "love" from both navy cardstock and craft foam. After layering the two pieces, I adhered the die cut word to the heart.  The "always" from the coordinating Wonderful Words: Love stamp set was stamped beneath the die cut in navy ink.  For an additional pop, I die cut the small heart from inside the "o" in the word "love" from light blue cardstock.  I layered it on to the craft foam heart left over from cutting out "love" and used more foam tape to place the heart inside of the "o."  I accented the die cut piece with a trio of white matte enamel dots arranged at the edges of the heart.  The finished panel was adhered to a pale pink card base.

And, if you upload your project to an online gallery, use the keyword CTD579If you upload your projects on social media, go ahead and use the hashtag #ctd579 and #colorthrowdown.  You can find us on Instagram and on Facebook with the username colorthrowdown.  Before you get started, here’s some inspiration from the talented Color Throwdown team and this week's Guest Star Stamper Jaya.

With Sympathy

With Sympathy card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps from Papertrey Ink
Here's my card for the current challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches.  I used the sketch to create a simple sympathy card with stamps from Papertrey Ink.  The large leafy branch image from Turning a New Leaf was stamped in green ink on the right side of a pale green cardstock panel.  I added a pair of pink flowers from the Everyday Classics set to the branch using pink ink.  The center of each flower was dotted with a small matching pink self-adhesive pearl to give the image a little dimension.

For the sentiment, I stamped "with sympathy" from the Keep it Simple: Sympathy stamp set on a narrow strip of the same pale green cardstock that I stamped the leafy branch on.  After matting the sentiment on darker green cardstock, I positioned the text over the stamped panel. The finished panel was adhered to a green card base that matches the mat underneath the sentiment panel.

Materials Used:
Turning a New Leaf, Everyday Classics, and Keep it Simple:  Sympathy stamp sets, Ripe Avocado and Spring Moss cardstock (Papertrey Ink); Mossy ink (The Stamp Market); Bubblegum ink (My Favorite Things); pink self adhesive pearls

Monochromatic Sentiment Signs

Sentiment Signs Thank You-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps from Papertrey Ink
Here's my card for the current challenge at CAS(e) this Sketch.  As soon as I saw it, I knew that Papertrey Ink's Sentiment Signs stamp set would be the perfect stamp set to use for my card.  I chose the set's thank you stamp and inked it in green ink to stamp on a light green stitched rectangle panel.  I spotlighted the "thank you" in the block image by stamping the image a second time on the same light green cardstock, trimming down the text and matting it on dark green cardstock, then adhering it over the matching text on the green panel.  The stitched panel was matted on dark green cardstock, then adhered to a mid-tone green card base.

Materials Used:
Sentiment Signs stamp set, Ripe Avocado, Spring Moss, and Simply Chartreuse cardstock (Papertrey Ink); Lime Green ink (Reverse Confetti); stitched rectangle dies (Lil' Inker Designs)

Simple Sympathy

Here's my card for the current challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.  My mom took most of the sympathy cards I had on hand, so I used the sketch to put a simple one together to replenish my stash.

With Sympathy card-designed by Lori Tecle/Inking Aloud-stamps from Papertrey Ink
I stamped a leafy branch from Papertrey Ink's Turning a New Leaf set in green pigment ink on a pale green card base.  The branch was filled in with a trio of flowers from the Everyday Classics stamp set, stamped in pink pigment ink.  For a bit of dimension, I dotted the center of each flower with pale pink Liquid Pearls.  One of the "with sympathy" sentiments from the Keep It Simple: Sympathy stamp set was stamped in brown ink on a narrow kraft cardstock strip, then placed over the stamped branch using foam tape for dimension to finish the design.

Materials Used:
Turning a New Leaf, Everyday Classics, and Keep It Simple:  Sympathy stamp sets, Spring Moss and Kraft cardstock (Papertrey Ink); Lemon Grass pigment ink (Avery Elle); Memento Luxe Rich Cocoa and Rose Bud inks (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); Petal Pink Liquid Pearls (Ranger); foam tape

Number One Fan

Here's my card for the current challenge at Freshly Made Sketches. I used the layout for a masculine, sports themed design.

I'm Your #1 Fan card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from Papertrey Ink
My stamped images are from Papertrey Ink's Football Frenzy stamp set.  I used pigment inks to stamp the images on the white die cut shapes.  The images and a die cut silver star were arranged at the lower left corner of a gray cardstock panel.  The gray panel was matted on silver cardstock before it was adhered to the upper portion of a dark blud card base.  The "I'm your #1 fan" sentiment from PTI's All-Star Team stamp set was stamped at the top of the gray panel in navy pigment ink to finish the design.

Materials Used:
Football Frenzy and All-Star Team stamp sets, Dark Indigo and Weathervane cardstock, Football Frenzy dies (Papertrey Ink); Memento Luxe Rich Cocoa, Nautical Blue, and Gray Flannel cardstock (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); Silver cardstock (Recollections); Stars dies (Spellbinders); foam tape

Enjoy the Ride

Here's my card for the current Fusion challenge. I combined the sketch with elements from the inspiration photo (a VW-style vehicle and an array colors) for this cheery design.

Congratulations card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from Papertrey Ink
I colored up the VW beetle image from Papertrey Ink's Enjoy the Ride set with Copic markers, adding a little shine to the headlights with a glitter brush pen.  The colored image was cut out with the matching die, then adhered to a long, narrow strip of rainbow striped paper using foam tape for dimension.  I matted the striped panel on blue cardstock before adhering it to a bright yellow card base.  For the sentiment, I stamped the set's "congratulations" sentiment on a double ended banner strip that matches the mat beneath the striped paper.  I used more foam tape to adhere the sentiment strip over the bottom of the rainbow striped panel just beneath the VW beetle image.

Materials Used:
Enjoy the Ride stamp set, Bright Buttercup and Hawaiian Shores cardstock, Enjoy the Ride and Double Ended Banner dies (Papertrey Ink); Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); markers (Copic); clear Sparkle Glitter Brush Pen (Spectrum Noir); Sunkissed 6x6 paper pad (Doodlebug Design); foam tape

Elegant Anniversary

Here's my card for the current challenge at CAS(e) this Sketch.  I created a classic, elegant anniversary card using a large crystal flourish that's been in my collection for a long time (probably too long!) and stamps from Papertrey Ink.

Elegant Anniversary card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps from Papertrey Ink
The flourish was arranged on a piece of shimmery white cardstock,  Knowing that part of the panel would be covered by the sentiment, I did a little trimming to get a little more mileage out of the flourish. For the sentiment, I stamped the anniversary sentiment from the Propose a Toast set in silver ink on a narrow shimmery white oval. Since inks take forever to dry on this cardstock, I heat embossed the text in silver before matting the panel on a slightly larger gray scalloped oval.  The oval was adhered over the flourish using foam tape. The finished panel was adhered to a gray card base that matches the mat for the sentiment panel.
