Color Throwdown 494-The Coolest Birthday Ever

It's time for another Color Throwdown!  Amy Rohl is our hostess this week with a classic color combination--red, white, and blue.

The Coolest Birthday Ever card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from Pattern HappyRed, white, and blue are the colors of the bomb pop, a classic frozen summer treat, so I ran with that for my design.  The layout is based on the current sketch at CAS(e) this Sketch.  I stamped one of the smaller popsicle images from Pattern Happy's Coolest Ever set along the bottom of a white panel, then colored the images with Copic markers.  I stamped a single larger popsicle image and colored it to match, then cut it out with the matching die.  It was adhered to the stamped panel using foam tape.  It doesn't show in the photo, but I gave it a frosty look by using a clear glitter brush pen over the colored image.  The set's birthday sentiment was stamped on the left side of the panel using a blue pigment ink.  The finished panel was adhered to a coordinating blue card base.

To play along, just create a paper crafted project using these colors as a starting point and add a direct link to your finished project using the linky tool found at the end of this week's CTD post.  As always, if you don’t have exact color matches, something close works just fine.  Just be sure that the challenge colors are the dominant ones in your project.  And, if you upload your project to an online gallery, use the keyword CTD494.  If you upload your projects on social media, go ahead and use the hashtag #ctd494 and #colorthrowdown.  You can find us on Instagram (and on Facebook!) with the username colorthrowdown.

Before you get started, here’s some inspiration from the talented Color Throwdown team, our May guestie Rachel Avarado, and this week's Guest Star Stamper, Marcia Hill.

You're the Coolest

You're the Coolest card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps from Pattern Happy
Here's my card for this month's Pattern Happy sketch.  I only have their Coolest Ever set (but have a few more on my wish list...), so I turned to that to my card based on the sketch.  I colored up a pair of popsicles in a refreshing lime green color, then cut them out with the matching dies.  It's hard to see in the photo, but I coated each popsicle with a bit of clear glitter from a glitter brush pen to get an icy look.  I arranged a trio of lime green cardstock strips across the top of a lemon yellow card base, then added the popsicles on top.  The "you're the coolest" sentiment was stamped in white pigment ink, then heat embossed so it would pop against the green.  A trio of white glitter enamel dots arranged around the popsicles completed the design.

The Sweetest Ever

You're the Sweetest Ever card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from Pattern Happy
Here's my card for this week's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  I just got the Coolest Ever stamps and dies from Pattern Happy and put them to work on this design.

I colored one of the set's popsicle images with Copic markers to look like a classic Bomb Pop, then cut out the colored image with the matching die. For an icy look, I brushed a bit of sparkly clear glitter on to the edges of the image using a glitter brush pen.  For the background for the pop, I matted a blue cardstock strip on a shimmery silver cardstock panel, then adhered the layered pieces to a red tone on tone chevron patterned paper.  The set's "you're the sweetest ever" sentiment was stamped on a super narrow red cardstock strip. For extra emphasis, I stamped the word "sweetest" separately and cut it out with the matching die, then used foam tape to position the word.  A trio of sparkling clear sequins were arranged around the popsicle--I imagine them as drips!  The finished panel was adhered to a coordinating blue card base.
