Chevron Thanks

Here’s my card for this month’s Avery Elle guest designer challenge. I took my inspiration for the card from the photo’s color scheme and the fun chevron pattern seen on the table runner in the photo.

I used the thank you sentiments from the Framed Fonts set as my focal image. Instead of stamping them in the set’s frame, I stamped the words on a die cut circle in a sunny yellow ink. The stamped panel is matted on a bright pink circle for a nice pop, then adhered to the cardfront along the edge of a strip of chevron patterned paper. I accented the panel with a pair of buttons tied with some hemp cord. To balance the design, I added a pair of layered fishtail flag strips at the top of the card, accented with a baker’s twine tied button.  I love this fun, cheery color scheme--it's perfect for a thank you card!

Materials Used:
Framed Fonts stamp set (Avery Elle); Lemon Drop ink, Die-namics Fishtail Flag Stax and Fishtail Flag Layers Stax dies (My Favorite Things); Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie, Barely Banana, and Whisper White cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); Persnickety Tiny Tablet (Lily Bee Design); circle dies (Spellbinders); buttons (Michaels); white hemp cord (Hemptique)

Wishing You Good Fortune

I'm always looking for stamp sets that will work well for masculine cards.  I think I've found one in the new Avery Elle Good Fortune set.  The fortune cookie and Magic 8 ball images and coordinating sentiments in this set are great for masculine cards! I used the set along with this week’s sketch from The Paper Players to put together this card.

I went with the fortune cookie image for my design. I colored the fortune cookie with Spectrum Noir markers and cut it out, then used dimensional dots to attach it to a round panel. After curving the “wishing you good fortune” sentiment a bit on my clear block, I stamped it to fit inside the outline of the fortune strip. The cutout strip extends out from underneath the raised fortune cookie image.

I went with a somewhat traditional Chinese new year color scheme for the design. I used a piece of red on red patterned paper from one of Echo Park’s mini collection kits to cover most of the cardfront. I used a strip of shimmery gold paper for the long panel that extends down from the top of the card. A strip of golden yellow dotted washi tape runs down the center of the panel to add a contrasting pattern to the card.

You can get this Avery Elle set—plus the latest releases—at i {heart} papers. IHP is celebrating reaching the milestone of 3,000 Facebook fans with a big sale. Use the code FB3K for 15% off of your order now through March 4. Happy shopping!

Color Throwdown 231-Happy Birthday

It’s time for another Color Throwdown! Broni is our hostess this week and she’s found this fun color combination for us to work with—Melon Mambo, Lucky Limeade, So Saffron, and Crumb Cake. I used the colors along with this week’s Clean and Simple Stamping sketch to make this fun birthday card.

Instead of using a stamped image, I used a die cut as the card’s focal point. I die cut the layered party hat using a die from Lil’ Inker Designs. The layered hat is adhered to a yellow patterned paper panel with dimensional dots. I stamped the “happy birthday” sentiment from a Paper Smooches stamp set next to the hat in a bright pink ink.

After matting the patterned paper panel on a piece of kraft cardstock, I adhered it to a green panel. I used a long line of attached bling, plus a few extra pieces of bling, to get the nice, (somewhat) straight line of sparkle underneath the image panel. Usually, those lines annoy me since I don’t usually use so many crystals on one project and I end up cutting them apart to use, but in this case, I was glad to have them on hand!

To play along, just create a paper crafted project using these colors as a starting point and add a direct link to your finished project using the linky tool found at the end of this week's CTD post. As always, if you don’t have exact color matches, something close works just fine. And, if you upload your project to an online gallery, use the keyword CTD231. Before you get started, here’s some inspiration from the talented Color Throwdown team and our February guestie, Kim Hahn.

One in a Million

Here’s my card for this month’s My Favorite Things guest designer challenge. I was happy with the design until I stamped the sentiment to finish the card . . .

I used the Pure Innocence 4 Leaf Clover set for my focal image. The girl is colored with Copic markers and cut out, then set on the round panel with foam tape. I used both sides of a piece of Jillibean Soup patterned paper for the panels on the card—a fun, colorful floral for the block behind the image and a striped green for the fishtail flag strip. To break up the pattern a little, I used a panel of pale yellow cardstock for the strip across the cardfront. All of the panels are matted on green cardstock for a cohesive look. I did some machine stitching to get a nice, finished look for the design.

Then, I debated about where to add the sentiment and what to stamp. None of the sentiments in the set fit on the card, so I had to find some other options that would work with the image.  I finally settled on the “one in a million” sentiment from the old Essential Sentiments set. I stamped it in MFT’s Jelly Bean Green ink at the bottom of the yellow panel. Not thrilled about how it looks, but once I stamped it, I was stuck.

Materials Used:
Pure Innocence 4 Leaf Clover and Essential Sentiments stamp sets, Jelly Bean Green ink, Die-namics Fishtail Flag Stax and Fishtail Flag Layers Stax dies (My Favorite Things); white cardstock (Taylored Expressions); Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko); markers (Copic); Kiwi Kiss and Barely Banana cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); Desert Storm cardstock (Neenah); Homemade 6 Bean Soup-Navy Bean designer paper (Jillibean Soup); circle dies (Spellbinders); Lime Green Stickles (Ranger); sewing machine; foam tape

Beyond Borders

For this week’s group project, the Clear and Simple Stamps design team is showing off creative uses of border stamps and dies. At the Craft and Hobby Association's winter trade show last month, it was clear that arrows were a big trend. For my take on the challenge, I came up with a way to use one of CSS’s new border stamps to create an arrow image.

I used one of the borders from the Air Mail set to form part of the arrow. I inked part of the image in red ink, then stamped it on a white panel at an angle. I used a ruler and a fine-tipped black pen to draw a line extending out from the stamped image, then added a red heart, die cut with one of the dies from the Shapes: Heart set, to the end of the line to form the point of the arrow. The “I love you” sentiment from the Love Cupid set is stamped underneath the pointy end of the arrow.

I matted the panel on black cardstock, the set it on a red card base. To accent it, I added a pair of Favor Flag die cuts extending out from the bottom edge of the panel and topped them with a red baker’s twine tied button.

For more inspiration using border stamps and dies, check out what the rest of the CSS team has created. Here’s where to find them:

Time to Celebrate

Here’s another birthday card for my stash. It’s based on this week’s sketch at Seize the Birthday. I went with one of my favorite classic color schemes—pink and brown—and a sweet image from My Favorite Things.

The cake-toting a la modes image is colored with Copic markers and cut out. I used foam tape to adhere the image to the label die cut panel. The set’s “time to celebrate” sentiment is stamped along the panel’s edge—thanks to my stamp positioner for helping me to get it stamped pretty straight!

The image panel is set on a piece of pink paper with a scribble pattern across it. The paper’s from an older 12x12 collection kit. I’ve been trying to make a dent in some of my older stuff so I can replace it with new . . . The pattern’s broken up a bit with a strip of brown cardstock extending from the left edge of the panel right up to and underneath the image. To add some texture, I topped the strip with a piece of rose grosgrain ribbon.  The final touch was teeny, tiny dots of pink Liquid Pearls along the top of each layer of the cake.  I'm thrilled that I managed to get the card photographed before any of the dots were smudged--that's usually not the case!

Materials Used:
a la modes Time to Celebrate stamp set (My Favorite Things); white cardstock (Taylored Expressions); Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko); markers (Copic); Chocolate Chip cardstock, Regal Rose grosgrain ribbon (Stampin’ Up!); Country Drive-Flutter By designer paper (Echo Park); Labels 1 dies (Spellbinders); Pink Petal Liquid Pearls (Ranger); foam tape

Paper Smooches SPARKS February Picture Perfect Challenge

This week's Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge is a Picture Perfect challenge, based on the photo above.  Isn't it sweet!

My card's a pretty loose interpretation of the photo.  I went with the photo's kissing theme, using the frog from the A Little Lovin' set as my focal image.  The frog is colored with Spectrum Noir markers and cut out, then adhered to a white panel with dimensional dots.  I stamped the set's "kiss me" sentiment on a rose circle, then folded the top of the circle over the edge of the white panel to form a rounded tab.

The panel is adhered to a piece of floral print paper.  I went with a floral pattern in a nod to the floral pattern seen in the background of the photo, even though my florals aren't the same style or color.  To add a little texture, I wrapped some neon (yes, neon!) hemp twine around the patterned paper, just underneath the image panel. I love the bright pop of color it gives!  The panel is set on a rose card base, matching the color of the sentiment panel.

Be sure to check out the challenge blog for all the details on this week's challenge--and for inspiration from the PS SPARKS design team, too.

Materials Used:
from i {heart} papersPaper Smooches A Little Lovin' stamp set, X-press white cardstock, Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black ink, Spectrum Noir markers (CG1, CG2, CG3, CG4, CT1, CT3, BT2), Carta Bella True Friends 6x6 paper pad, Hemptique neon hemp twine, Sticky Thumb dimensional dots

other:  Regal Rose cardstock (Stampin' Up!); circle punch (EK Success)

Wishing You Joy

Here's my card for this week's CAS(e) this Sketch challenge.  I used the sketch in it's vertical orientation along with a new stamp set from Mama Elephant.  I don't have many (maybe even any!) people silhouette images in my stamp collection, so when I saw the So Breezy set, I decided to pick it up.

I stamped the girl and kite images on a light blue panel, using a gray ink for a softer look.  The "wishing you joy" sentiment is stamped along the left edge of the panel.  I cut a piece of blue patterned paper with a feminine floral design for the panel behind the image.  The two panels are arranged on a turquoise card base.

I found a scrap of turquoise stitched grosgrain ribbon in my ribbon pile and folded it to make a tab to slip under the image panel to help set it apart from the patterned paper without adding a mat.  The angular mat isn't something I wouldn't have tried on my own, but I really like how it looks!

Materials Used:
So Breezy stamp set (Mama Elephant); Memento Gray Flannel ink (Tsukineko); Soft Sky cardstock (Stampin' Up!); Hawaiian Shores cardstock (Papertrey Ink); Country Drive-Daisy Field designer paper (Echo Park); turquoise stitched grosgrain ribbon (Michaels)

Spread the Love with Clear and Simple Stamps

I'm excited to be joining the Clear and Simple Stamps Spread the Love campaign today.  Spread the Love is a way to give a virtual shout out to the other creative bloggers whose work we admire--and to share some projects of our own, too .  You can get all the details on Spread the Love and how to join in on the linky party here on the CSS blog.

Over the summer, Michaels invited me to attend a blogger event in Dallas, Texas with a bunch of other crafty bloggers.  The focus of our blogs covered a wide range of topics--from art for kids, to lifestyle, to candles, to party planning and printables, and everything in between.  I was the only stamper/cardmaker in the group and loved the opportunity to get to spend time with other talented crafty bloggers.  So, when I heard about this CSS campaign, I thought it would be a great time to highlight one of the bloggers I met at the Michaels event.  I'd been admiring Courtney Whitmore's blog, Pizzazzerie, even before the blogger event.  It's one of my favorites to check out for great party ideas. I can take the themes, trendy color schemes, decorations, and  and use them as inspiration for paper crafting projects.  And, as someone who has super limited skills in the kitchen, I love to see the  beautiful and yummy looking baked goods she cooks up.  You've got to take a look at her push up cake pops--they're amazing!

And here's my Pizzazzerie inspired project.  I created some pieces for a star themed party using the colors in the Mod Mason Jar color scheme.  I am so loving the yellow and gray color combination right now!

First up is the food and drink.  I repurposed an empty Frappuccino bottle, decorating it with a piece of star stamped cardstock wrapped around the middle. I added a light gray circle with a die cut star at the center.  For a little sparkle, I added a clear crystal at the center of the star.  The bottle is filled with lemonade and a trendy striped paper straw.  The (store bought!) cupcake's a lemon flavored one with a bit of lemony topping nested inside of the icing.  I used CSS's cupcake wrapper die to make a decorative wrapper for the cupcake and a coordinating stand, too.  The topper uses the same circle and star elements as I used on the bottle to tie the pieces together.

And, you can't have a party without a party favor, so I used CSS's Party Favor 1 die to make a little box to fill with lemon flavored candies.  To make the window in the box, I used one of the dies from the Shapes:  Stars set to make a star shaped opening in the box before I assembled it and in the gray circle I adhered to the front of the box, too.

I also made a simple bunting for decoration featuring a mix of stars and pennants.  The pennants are made with one of the dies from the Favor Flags set.  I cut the flag from dark gray cardstock, then added a light gray circle topped with a star. The pennants are strung on a piece of yellow baker's twine along with large die cut stars in an alternating pattern.

I hope you'll join us and Spread the Love.  I'm looking forward to finding lots of great new to me blogs to look to for inspiration and ideas!

Materials Used:
Stars Plus stamp set, Golden Tiara ink, Pressed Greige Linen, I Steel Got It, Golden Tiara, and Say Yellow to All Your Fans cardstock, Shapes:  Stars, Shapes:  Circles, Party Favor 1, Favor Flags, and Cupcake Wrappers dies, Divine Twine yellow baker's twine, Simple Adhesive (Clear and Simple Stamps); clear crystals (Michaels)

Thanks Ever So Much

Here's my card for February's final Viva la Verve sketch.  It's also doubling as my entry for Verve's SCS Love Fest color challenge to use aqua, brown and pink.

I put together a simple thank you card using up some scraps I found on my table.  So that the stamped sentiment would be easy to see, I used an aqua cardstock panel for the top of the card.  After stamping the "thanks ever so much" sentiment from the Treasured Words set on the panel in brown ink, I adhered the panel to a blue plaid panel.  The seam between the two papers is hidden by a strip of pretty aqua velvet trim with dark brown stitched edges.  The trim adds a nice texture without being too bulky. The little fishtail flag pieces were cut from different patterned paper scraps leftover from other projects.  I mixed the lengths, patterns, and colors to add interest to the design--and to squeeze in the final color I needed for the challenge, too!

Materials Used:
Treasured Words stamp set (Verve Stamps); Memento Rich Cocoa ink (Tsukineko); Aqua Mist cardstock (Papertrey Ink); Very Vanilla cardstock (Stampin' Up!); Country Drive-Little Ladies designer paper (Echo Park); The Sweetest Thing-Lavender 6x6 paper pad (My Mind's Eye); velvet trim (Michaels)

Miss You

I took a few minutes (less than 10) to play along with the latest 10 Minute Craft Dash challenge.  The challenge colors--turquoise, melon, and chocolate brown--are some of my favorites.  I combined images from a few different Paper Smooches stamp sets to put together this card in 9 minutes and 32 seconds.

I used the images to build a simple scene.  I started off by stamping the branch image from the Hang Ups set on a white panel, then colored it with a Spectrum Noir marker.  The bird is from the My Peeps set.  I stamped it on a scrap of white cardstock and quickly colored it with markers, then cut it out and adhered it to the stamped panel with dimensional dots.  I stamped a pair of musical notes from the same stamp set, along with a solid heart from the Bee Mine set, next to the bird in pink ink, then added the "miss you" sentiment from the Metropolis set underneath the branch.

After matting the stamped scene on a dark brown panel, I adhered it over a pink strip I set on a turquoise card base.  I would have liked to have used some patterned paper, but I was running out of time.  Instead, I added a piece of knotted turquoise striped twill to the lower corner of the image panel to add some texture to the simple design.

from i {heart} papers:  Paper Smooches My Peeps, Metropolis, Hang Ups, and Bee Mine stamp sets, Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black and Rose Bud inks, Spectrum Noir markers (BT2, BT3,BT4, BT5, BP2, EB3), May Arts striped twill, Sticky Thumb dimensional dots

other:  Melon Mambo and Chocolate Chip cardstock (Stampin' Up!); Hawaiian Shores cardstock (Papertrey Ink)

Happy Bird-day

Here's my card for this week's My Favorite Things Wednesday Stamp Club sketch challenge.  I'm still in need of birthday cards, so I made another one using the sketch.

I used the Pure Innocence So Tweet set for the image panel.  I colored the girl with Copic markers, then paper pieced her dress with a scrap of dotted paper.  The image is layered on orange cardstock, then set over a coordinating orange and aqua patterned paper panel matted on the same orange cardstock to tie the pieces together.  I arranged the panels on an aqua card base, then added the set's "happy bird-day" sentiment on an aqua circle adhered to a decorative edged circle.

Materials Used:
Pure Innocence So Tweet stamp set (My Favorite Things); white cardstock (Taylored Expressions); Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko); Vivid Beach Glass ink (Clearsnap); Aqua Mist and Summer Sunrise cardstock (Papertrey Ink); Stella and Rose-Mabel 6x6 paper pad (My Mind's Eye); Lacey Circle die (Spellbinders); circle punch (EK Success); foam tape

Hi

Here's my card for this week's Muse challenge.  I was inspired by the graphic designs in the stripes of the inspiration card along with the fun color scheme.

I have some of the same washi tape that's found on the inspiration card, but I decided to use stamps instead of the tape on my card.  My design uses one of the border strips from the Air Mail set from Clear and Simple Stamps.  I stamped the same strip three times, varying the color and length of the strip each time I stamped.  It took me a few (okay, more than a few) practice runs before I came up with an arrangement that I liked.  Once I settled on this one, I added some black Thickers spelling "hi."  I decided to use Thickers instead of die cut letters or regular stickers to give the design a little dimension.  The panel is set on a black mat for contrast, then adhered to a teal blue card base.

Materials Used:
Air Mail stamp set, Simply Blue-tiful, Creamsicle Cardigan, and Say Yellow to All Your Fans inks, Party Teal Dawn, Perfect Little Black Dress, and A Blanc Check cardstock (Clear and Simple Stamps); black letter stickers (Thickers)

Hello Friend

This week's blogger challenge theme is friendship.  I used this week's Mojo Monday sketch to put together this feminine friend-themed design.

I used a trio of coordinating patterned papers from a Fancy Pants paper pad for the circles.  Each circle is layered on a red mat so they stand out nicely from the pale pink background panel.  I placed the palest paper circle at the bottom so I could stamp the sentiment from Papertrey Ink's Heart-2-Heart #4 set on it.

For the embellishment at the left side of the bottom circle, I used a die cut telephone.  To add interest to the die cut piece, I stamped the phone's dial on a scrap of paper and punched it out with a circle punch, then adhered it to the phone with foam tape.  The cord is a piece of hemp cord that I twisted around my paper piecing tool to give it a somewhat coiled look like a real phone cord.  Unfortunately, it lost a little of its twisty-ness along the way . . .

Materials Used:
Heart-2-Heart #4 stamp set, Heart-2-Heart #4 die (Papertrey Ink); Memento Rhubarb Stalk and Gray Flannel inks (Tsukineko); Blushing Bride, Cherry Cobbler, and Very Vanilla cardstock (Stampin' Up!); Love Note 6x6 paper pad (Fancy Pants); circle dies (Spellbinders); hemp cord (Hemptique); red grosgrain ribbon; foam tape

Baby Congrats

Here’s a sweet card that combines the current Lawnscaping challenge to make a scene with the challenge from the Paper Players to make a baby card with buttons and bows. I used Lawn Fawn’s Plus One set to put this one together in a soft pastel palette perfect for welcoming a baby boy.

I used the set’s stork as my focal image. I shaded it a bit with Spectrum Noir markers, then paper pieced the bundle with some plaid patterned paper. The cutout image is attached to a light blue panel using dimensional dots. To round out the scene, I added a strip of polka dotted grass along the bottom and a fluffy white felt cloud with a baker's twine tied yellow button sun at the top. I topped the grass with a strip of ruffle edged trim to add a fun textured element. The panel is adhered to a pale yellow card base. I stamped the set’s “congrats” sentiment directly underneath panel to complete the design.

Materials Used:
from i {heart} papers: Lawn Fawn Plus One stamp set, X-Press white cardstock, Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black ink, Spectrum Noir markers (IB1, IG1, IG2, IG3), Pebbles Family Ties 6x6 paper pad, Pollika white felt, Maya Road golden yellow ruffle edge trim, Divine Twine lemon yellow baker’s twine, Sticky Thumb dimensional dots

other: Soft Sky and Barely Banana cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); CutUps cloud border die (The Cat’s Pajamas); grass border punch (Fiskars); yellow button (Michaels); corner rounder

Happy Birthday

I needed to add a few birthday cards to my stash, so I put together this quick one based on this week’s sketch from Retro Sketches. Picking the papers to use took much longer than actually putting the card together!

I used the party hat die from Lil’ Inker Designs to make the layered focal image piece. It’s adhered to the festive striped paper panel with foam tape. I looked through my stamp collection for something with a bold enough font to stand out against the busy stripes and finally settled on the Big Greetings set from My Favorite Things. I stamped the “happy birthday” sentiment underneath the stamp—and I’m now wishing I’d used my Versafine ink so it would be bolder . . . I added a trio of silver brads to the left side of the panel for a little shine, then adhered the panel to a bold red card base.

Materials Used:
Big Greetings stamp set (My Favorite Things); Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko); Poppy Parade and Baja Breeze cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); So Happy Together 6x6 paper pad (Echo Park); party hat die (Lil’ Inker Designs); silver brads; foam tape

Color Throwdown 230-With Gratitude

It’s time for another Color Throwdown! Barbara is our hostess this week and she’s found this pretty, earthy color combination to work with—Cajun Craze, Soft Suede, Lucky Limeade, Marina Mist, and Vanilla. I took my cue from the earth tones to pick the image I used on this thank you card

The tree is from Papertrey Ink’s Trendy Tree Tops set. I stamped the tree trunk in Soft Suede ink, then added the leaves using Memento Potter’s Clay ink. The bird is stamped with Marina Mist ink. I used Copic markers to add some grass around the base of the tree trunk.

I matted the stamped panel on Kiwi Kiss cardstock (no Lucky Limeade here, so I had to improvise!), then set it over a strip of Soft Suede cardstock topped with a rust colored ribbon. The panels are adhered to a piece of patterned paper with flecks of vanilla. I added the “with gratitude” sentiment from PTI’s Lovely Leaves set on a pair of layered fishtail flag die cut pieces, then balanced the design with a blue button tied with hemp cord.

To play along, just create a paper crafted project using these colors as a starting point and add a direct link to your finished project using the linky tool found at the end of this week's CTD post. As always, if you don’t have exact color matches, something close works just fine. And, if you upload your project to an online gallery, use the keyword CTD230. Before you get started, here’s some inspiration from the talented Color Throwdown team and our February guestie, Kim Hahn.

Hang in There

Here’s my card for this week’s Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps “anything goes” challenge. I inked up the new to me Moonlight Whispers Arielle image for this design.

Arielle is stamped on a white panel and colored with Copic markers. I left room on the panel to stamp the coordinating “hang in there” sentiment beneath the image. I matted the colored image on a black panel, then added a section of a red label die cut from my scrap pile to the bottom edge of the panel to dress it up a bit before adhering it to a red patterned paper panel. The patterned paper is actually from a Christmas themed collection, but I'm finding that most of the patterns in the collection can be used for lots of things other than holiday creations. I finished off the design with a piece of knotted ribbon at the base of the image panel.

Materials Used:
Moonlight Whispers Arielle stamp set (Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps); white cardstock (Taylored Expressions); Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko); markers (Copic); Real Red and Basic Black cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); North Pole Collection Kit (Doodlebug Design); Labels 4 die (Spellbinders); black grosgrain ribbon (Michaels)

What's Up?

***Scroll down to the post below or click HERE to see my post for today's IHP DT challenge.***

The Cat’s Pajamas is today’s featured member company in SCS’s Love Fest. We’re hosting an inspiration challenge based on this fun photo collage.  You can find all the challenge details in the TCP member company forum on SCS.  You don't want to miss out on this one--there are some great prizes up for grabs for players in the challenge!

Here’s my take on the challenge. I was inspired by the fabulous and trendy yellow, gray, and black color scheme and used that for my card along with the current Deconstructed Sketch. The focal image comes from the Warm Fuzzies set. I colored the girl with Copic markers, paper piecing her skirt with a scrap of polka dotted paper to add a little pattern to the solid colors. The “what's up” sentiment is stamped in the open space next to the image.

I matted the image on a yellow panel, then set it on top of a black and white chevron patterned paper panel. The chevron paper is set on a gray panel with a strip of yellow dotted paper running along the bottom. I used the same paper here as on the girl’s skirt to tie the pieces together. The decorative edge at the top of the yellow strip is cut with the CutUps Queen of Hearts border die. I tried to use the same die on the chevron patterned paper, but its details were lost in the busy pattern. A narrow strip of black grosgrain ribbon, studded with a trio of clear crystals, breaks up the yellow a bit and adds some sparkle, too.

I hope you'll join us in the TCP forum for some fun and games and more inspiration from The Cat Pack!

Materials Used:
Warm Fuzzies stamp set, Neenah white cardstock, CutUps Queen of Hearts border die (The Cat’s Pajamas); Memento Tuxedo Black cardstock (Tsukineko); markers (Copic); Daffodil Delight cardstock, black grosgrain ribbon (Stampin’ Up!); Steel Grey cardstock (My Favorite Things); The Good Life 6x6 paper pad (Fancy Pants); So Happy Together 6x6 paper pad (Echo Park); clear crystals (Recollections)

February IHP DT Challenge-Something Old and Something New

For this month's i {heart} papers design team challenge, we're showing off something old (collection kits) along with something new (Spectrum Noir markers).  I used the Echo Park Toy Box mini collection kit along with the markers and a Lawn Fawn stamp set to make a cheery little get well gift set that's perfect for this time of year.

The card's layout comes from this week's challenge at Crazy 4 Challenges.  I used a piece of multicolored patterned paper from the Toy Box kit for the funky shaped panel along the left side of the card.  The focal image is the adorable smiling tissue box from Lawn Fawn's On the Mend set. I colored the tissue box with some coordinating Spectrum Noir markers, then cut a slit in the top of the box so I could add some tissues popping up from it.  I adhered it to a round panel with dimensional dots, then added the "get well soon" sentiment on a die cut arrow.  The arrow is anchored with a blue button tied with a little white hemp cord.

To dress up the packet of tissues, I designed a simple holder out of more of the same patterned paper I used on the card.  The box is assembled with IHP's i {stick} papers redline tape.  To tie the two pieces together, I used another arrow die cut along with a twine tied button as the embellishment.  If you want to make one for yourself, you can download a file (PDF) with a printable template for the tissue packet holder here.

Don't miss what the rest of the IHP team has created using designer paper collection kits and Spectrum Noir markers.  Here's where to find them:

Paper Smooches SPARKS February Cool Shades Challenge

This week's  Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge is a Cool Shades challenge using the colors seen in the swatch above--red, chocolate brown, aqua, and cream.  I used the cupcake die from PS's new line of dies (Kate has a bunch of them in stock now at i {heart} papers!) along with the new Birthday Sampler stamp set for this sweet card. The colors are perfect for a yummy-looking birthday cupcake, right?

I cut the top of the cupcake from brown cardstock, then used a piece of cream and aqua chevron patterned paper to cut the cupcake base.  It's assembled on a cream panel with strips of aqua and red cardstock along the bottom for a color blocked look.

The cherry on top of the cupcake is also made with one of the dies in the cupcake die set.  I cut it from red cardstock and colored the stem with a brown marker.  After I attached it to the top of the cupcake with a dimensional dot, I coated the round part with Glossy Accents for a shiny look.  The "wish big" sentiment is stamped on a red notch-ended strip and attached to the cupcake with another dimensional dot.

Happy Anniversary

Here's my card for this week's Viva la Verve sketch challenge.  My take's a super simple version of the layout with a few liberties taken on the size and placement of the trio of embellishments.

I made an anniversary card using one of the sentiments from Verve's Wishing You set as my focal image.  It's stamped in red ink on a cream panel. The stamped panel is set over a piece of patterned paper with a contrasting strip of red grosgrain ribbon.  If you look closely, you can see a teeny, tiny heart in the pattern that makes it perfect for a love-themed card.

Once the panel was in place, I added a trio of embellishment--a wood veneer couple with a layered felt heart in between them.  The embellishments don't exactly match the scale or placement called for in the sketch, but I think it's still close enough to count!

Materials Used:
Wishing You stamp set, From the Heart die set (Verve Stamps); Memento Lady Bug ink (Tsukineko); Bashful Blue and Very Vanilla cardstock (Stampin' Up!); Love Me 6x6 paper pad (My Mind's Eye); wood veneer people (Studio Calico); red grosgrain ribbon (Michaels)

Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge 178-You Make Me Smile

It's time for another Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge!  I went clean and simple with this sketch, using some coordinating stamps and dies from Lil' Inker Designs.

The big round panel is filled in with die cut strips arranged on a light blue background to form a rainbow.  After matting the panel on a turquoise circle, I adhered it to a light blue dotted panel with machine stitched edges.  I trimmed the left edge of the circle so it was flush with the edge of the dotted panel.  Once the panel was in place, I added a die cut white felt cloud at the end of the rainbow.  The "you make me smile" sentiment is stamped at the bottom of the card in red ink.

To play along, just create a card based on the sketch and link it up on Karen’s blog. For lots of inspiration be sure to check out what the other Sweet Sunday Sketch stampers and our two special guests have created for you this week. Here’s where to find them:

Waltzingmouse Stamps February Blog Dance-Doily Duo

Here’s my take on this month’s doily challenge for the Waltzingmouse Stamps blog party. I’ve been using a lot of paper doilies on my creations lately, but for this card, I put them aside in favor of some stamped ones.

My doilies are from the Waltzingmouse Large Doily stamp set. I stamped them on a pretty pink on pink patterned paper in white ink, then heat embossed them with white embossing powder so they’d really stand out against the background.

I layered a solid rose cardstock strip between the two doily images, then stamped the “for my friend” sentiment on the panel in gray ink. I like the softer look of gray (rather than black) with the feminine pinks and roses on this card. To balance the heavy bottom of the card, I added a pair of layered notch-ended cardstock strips at the top. A twine-tied button adds one more soft, rounded element to the design.

Materials Used:
Large Doily and Compact Sentiments stamp sets (Waltzingmouse Stamps); Gray Flannel ink (Tsukineko); white ink (WPlus9); Autumn Rose cardstock (Papertrey Ink); Basic Gray cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); Paris Girl 6x6 paper pad (Carta Bella); white embossing powder (Michaels); white hemp twine (Hemptique); white button

So Bright

Here’s a cheery, encouraging design for this week’s CAS(e) This Sketch challenge. I interpreted the sketch’s pennant element as the pocket from the WPlus9 A Pocketful set—there are so many things you can do with that little pocket!

The pocket is stamped in Teal Zeal ink and cut out, then adhered to a white panel stamped with the set’s sunshine image in yellow. I used a dimensional dot to attach the pocket to add a little interest to the design. The “you’re so bright” sentiment from the Market Street Stamps Teacher Notes set is stamped over the sun in navy ink. I don’t often mix stamps from different companies, but the sentiment was a perfect match—and fit—here! I layered the stamped panel on a coordinating blue mat, then set it on a golden yellow cardfront to tie all the elements together.  Now that I'm looking at the card again, I'm thinking that I may go back and add a tiny tab at the right side of the pocket . . .

And on a completely different note, here's an update on my Chloe the cutie puppy.  I posted earlier this week that I was taking her to a veterinary dermatology/allergy specialist to investigate the cause of her constant licking and itching. After some not so pleasant testing, it appears that Chloe is allergic to a bunch of environmental things--certain trees, weeds, molds, and dust, 20 different things in all.  The course of treatment is regular allergy shots, administered by at home by me!  I am pleased to report that I gave Chloe her first shot last night and we both survived. Hopefully it will continue to be a smooth course of treatment and will make a difference for her.

Materials Used:
from i {heart} papers: WPlus9 A Pocketful stamp set, Market Street Stamps Teacher Notes stamp set, Tsukineko Memento Cantaloupe, Teal Zeal, and Nautical Blue inks, Sticky Thumb dimensional dots

Other: So Saffron, Blue Bayou, and Whisper White cardstock (Stampin’ Up!)

You're a Big Deal

Here’s my card for this week’s My Favorite Things Wednesday Stamp Club sketch challenge. I did just a bit of stamping on this clean and simple masculine design.

I used the “you’re a big deal” sentiment from the Big Greetings set as my focal image. It’s stamped in MFT's Sno Cone ink on a cream panel that I layered on a pair of coordinating cardstock panels.  The extra layers do a nice job of setting the sentiment off from the busy arrow patterned paper that covers most of the cardfront.

As accents, I used two arrows, cut with MFT’s Lead the Way Die-namics dies. They’re positioned to be pointing at the sentiment.  I played around with a few different combinations of arrows--there are a bunch in this set of dies!--before settling on these two.

Materials Used:
Big Greetings stamp set, Sno Cone ink, Lead the Way Die-namics dies (My Favorite Things); Sahara Sand and Very Vanilla cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); Hawaiian Shores cardstock (Papertrey Ink); Away We Go 6x6 paper pad (My Mind’s Eye); oval dies (Spellbinders)

Cut it Out

This week’s blogger challenge theme is “cut it out.” I realized I hadn’t shared the fun die cut project I had featured in the recent Paper Crafts magazine special issue, Die Cutting for Paper Crafters, so I thought I’d share it today for the challenge.

I used several different dies from Clear and Simple Stamps to create the elements in this sweet shadow box that's the perfect decoration for a little girl's room. I started off by die cutting some green dotted patterned paper strips with a grass die, then layering the die cut strips at the bottom of a blue panel. I made a clothesline above the grass, using a piece of hemp twine and some mini clothespins. A different patterned die cut dress hangs from each pair of clothespins. The dresses were cut with a die from the Tiny Fashions set and then stamped with the matching outline image. I added a little embellishment to each dress, too. The final die cut element is die cut letters spelling out the recipient’s name. Once the pieces were in place, I set the finished panel inside a simple white shadowbox frame.

If you’re looking for inspiration using die cut elements, this special issue is a great place to start. I’m not sure if it’s still out on newsstands or not, but if it isn’t you can get it here.

Materials Used:
Tiny Fashions stamp set, Tiny Fashions, Grass, and Lowercase Alphabet dies, Trendsetter Blue, I’m a Princess Pink, and A Blanc Check cardstock, Paint the Town Pink buttons (Clear and Simple Stamps); Victoria Park-Grass designer paper (Lily Bee Design); Miss Caroline-Dolled Up and On the Bright Side-One 6x6 paper pads (My Mind’s Eye); twine (Hemptique); mini clothespins; foam tape

Have a Blast

Here’s my card for this week’s sketch at Freshly Made Sketches. It’s been a while since I inked up my Half Pint Heroes set from Waltzingmouse Stamps, so I put it to use for the challenge.

I used the rocket ship as my focal image. It’s colored with Copic markers and cut out. I added a large clear dome sticker to make a glass-like cover for the rocket’s “window.”

To make a starry sky backdrop for the rocket, I used the CutUps Star Rosette die from The Cat's Pajamas, left flat. I backed the die cut piece with a regular golden yellow circle to fill in the stars with color, then set the piece on a navy panel. A star patterned strip runs across the bottom of the die cut and the rocket is set over that using foam tape. I stamped the “have a blast on your big day” on a golden yellow notch-ended strip and adhered that to the card, extending out from underneath the rocket ship. What a super cute birthday card for a little boy!

Materials Used:
Half Pint Heroes stamp set (Waltzingmouse Stamps); white cardstock (Taylored Expressions); Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko); markers (Copic); Night of Navy, Baja Breeze, and So Saffron cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); Follow Your Heart "Be Amazing" Geo Star designer paper (My Mind’s Eye); CutUps Star Rosette die (The Cat’s Pajamas); foam tape

Soda-lighted

I gave the Muse challenge another try this week. My card’s inspired by the beverage theme of the original design. I used the same layout for the image panel, but switched up the placement of the panel on my version of the card.

Instead of using a lemonade image, I used a soda bottle from the Freshly Squeezed Stamps Soda-lighted set. It’s colored with Spectrum Noir markers and popped up on the white panel using dimensional dots. I added a few little bubbles next to the bottle and filled them in with Stickles. I used a black pen to draw a narrow line to ground the bottle, then stamped the sentiment beneath the line.

I edged the stamped panel with a strip of red striped washi tape, echoing the red and white stripes of the straw found in the bottle. After adding a strip of red cardstock underneath the tape, I adhered the stamped panel to a kraft card base. I threaded a red button with some hemp twine and tied it in a bow, then added that to the tape as an accent.

Materials Used:
from i {heart} papers: Freshly Squeezed Stamps Soda-lighted stamp set, Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black ink, Spectrum Noir markers (CR9, EB5, EB, GB1, GB8, GB10), Ranger Star Dust Stickles, Hemptique natural hemp twine cord, Sticky Thumb dimensional dots

other: Real Red cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); Desert Storm cardstock (Neenah); red decorative tape (Freckled Fawn); red button (Michaels)

Chalkboard Thanks

Here’s my card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch. I thought the big panel would work well for a sentiment block done up in chalkboard style, so I found my Papertrey Ink Sentiment Signs set and got to work.

I stamped the set’s thank you sentiments on a black panel with WPlus9’s new white ink (love it, by the way!), then heat embossed the words with white before stamping the text again slightly offset. After brushing on a little more of the pigment ink, the panel was ready to be set on an aqua panel with a strip of red ribbon stretched diagonally across. I added a piece of matching knotted red ribbon after adhering the panel to the background.

To go with the bold blackboard piece, I found a fun, bold floral print paper from a Fancy Pants paper pad. I like how the flowers jump out from the pale background! A strip of coordinating dotted paper breaks up the pattern a bit.  There are a lot of layers going on here--more than I'm usually used to using--but I think it worked out okay.

Materials Used:
Sentiment Signs stamp set, Aqua Mist cardstock (Papertrey Ink); Sahara Sand, Real Red, and Basic Black cardstock, scallop edge punch (Stampin’ Up!); The Good Life 6x6 paper pad (Fancy Pants); white embossing powder, red grosgrain ribbon (Michaels)

Color Throwdown 229-Hope You Perk up Soon

It’s an exciting morning around here. Not only is it time for another Color Throwdown, but Chloe the cutie puppy and I are off to a veterinary dermatology/allergy specialist first thing in the morning to see if we can get to the root of her persistent itching/licking and icky rash. She can’t eat before her appointment and for my food-driven girly, that is going to be an issue. It’s a good thing our appointment is early! Anyway, Wanda is our hostess this week and she’s found a yummy photo with a pretty color combination for us to work with—Chocolate Chip, Blushing Bride, Old Olive, and White. I used the colors along with an A2 sized variation on the current Deconstructed Sketch to make a get well card for the secretary at my office.

The focal image is the to go cup from the Hot, Hot, Hot set from Fresh Squeezed Stamps. I colored the cup with Spectrum Noir markers and cut it out, then used a dimensional dot to adhere it to a white panel stamped with the set’s “hope you perk up soon” sentiment.

The image panel is layered over a pink chevron panel with an olive dotted strip adhered down the center. Each layer is matted with chocolate brown cardstock for a nice pop. I kept the card simple, even with all the layers, so it will be easy to pop into the mail.

To play along, just create a paper crafted project using these colors as a starting point and add a direct link to your finished project using the linky tool found at the end of this week's CTD post. As always, if you don’t have exact color matches, something close works just fine. And, if you upload your project to an online gallery, use the keyword CTD229. Before you get started, here’s some inspiration from the talented Color Throwdown team and our February guestie, Kim Hahn.

Always on my Mind

Here’s my card for this week’s Viva la Verve sketch challenge. I used the sketch to make a simple missing you card that’s already been sent off in a package of cards for Operation Write Home.

I decided to represent the two elements hanging down from the ribbon strip with a pair of hanging stars, using the star image from Verve’s Always on my Mind set. I stamped the star image twice, staggering the placement to add interest, then paper pieced the stars with scraps of sparkly silver cardstock. The sentiment is stamped at the opposite side of the panel in black ink. I adhered the stamped panel to another patterned paper panel, then added a strip of ribbon at the top and a narrow strip of silver cardstock at the bottom to set it off. The finished panel is set on a coordinating light blue card base.

Materials Used:
Always on my Mind stamp set (Verve Stamps); Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko); Soft Sky cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); silver paper (Michaels); Nostalgia 6x6 paper pad (My Mind’s Eye); blue twill (Martha Stewart)

TCP Tuesday-The Sun'll Come Out Tomorrow

I’m back with another project for this month’s TCP Tuesday challenge. This month’s theme is “what’s old is new again.” You have until the end of the month to join us with your take on the challenge.

For my first project last week, I used my very first TCP stamp set. This time, I focused on using TCP’s fabulous CutUps dies in a somewhat unexpected way. I used the CutUps Easy Rosette die to make a cheery three dimensional sun as the focal point for this card, based on this week’s sketch from Retro Sketches.

The pieces for the sun were cut from patterned paper to add interest. Once I put it together, I added a contrasting solid cardstock circle to the center, then adhered it to a patterned paper strip set on a light blue card base. I die cut a strip of felt clouds using the CutUps Cloud Border die, then cut the strip apart and attached one of the clouds to the cardfront so it’s peeking out from underneath the sun.

The sentiment is from the Spring Rain set. I stamped it in orange ink on a yellow notch-ended strip that’s set underneath the sun.

Materials Used:
Spring Rain stamp set, CutUps Easy Rosette and Cloud Border dies (The Cat’s Pajamas); Vivid Butterscotch ink (Clearsnap); Baja Breeze and Daffodil Delight cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); Playground-Journaling Cards and A Walk in the Park-Sunshine designer papers (Echo Park); circle die (Spellbinders); white felt; foam tape

Ten Minute Type

I put together this sweet card for the current 10 Minute Craft Dash challenge to use hearts. I had a piece of heart patterned paper on my table and used it as the starting point for my design, which took 9 minutes and 43 seconds to put together.

I adhered the heart patterned paper to the bottom of a piece of textured pink cardstock. The seam between the two papers is hidden by a strip of red ribbon. If I’d had more time, I would have used my ribbon iron to smooth the ribbon out . . . Anyway, I stamped the sentiment just above the ribbon in Versafine’s black ink for a nice, dark impression. After rounding the bottom corners of the patterned paper, I adhered the panel to a pale pink card base. I glued a wood veneer heart just to the left of the sentiment, then added a red notch-ended strip flush with the right edge of the card. I anchored the strip with some white gel pen faux stitching, bypassing my sewing machine to stay within the challenge time limits.

Materials Used:
Lots of Love stamp set (Avery Elle); Versafine Onyx Black ink (Tsukineko); Pink Pirouette, Real Red, and Melon Mambo textured cardstock (Stampin’ Up!); With Love 6x6 paper pad, red grosgrain ribbon (Michaels); wood veneer heart (Studio Calico); white pen (Ranger); corner rounder

Paper Smooches SPARKS February Designer Draft Challenge

This week’s Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge is a Designer Draft challenge. I have to admit that this one had me stumped at first, but once I came up with an idea, my card came together pretty quickly—and turned out super sweet, too!

I used the small stitched heart image from the Needle Little Love set to make quilt style blocks. The hearts are colored with Spectrum Noir markers and cut out, then adhered to the center of a multicolored chevron patterned paper. The patterned squares are attached to red squares cut with a pinking edged die. I arranged the squares on a yellow card base, picking up one of the colors in the patterned paper. I added a notch-ended strip extending out from the top square, again using a color similar to one found in the patterned paper.

The sentiment is stamped in a straight line (instead of stacked as it is on the stamp) on a narrow white strip. With clear stamps, it’s so easy to place the words just where you want them! Once I set the stamped strip in place, I added the colored heart image on top. Each heart is accented with a tiny red button, threaded with white hemp cord.

Be sure to check out the challenge blog for all the details on this week’s challenge—and for inspiration from the design team, too!

Materials Used:
from i {heart} papers: Paper Smooches Needle Little Love stamp set, X-Press white Copic blending cardstock, Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black ink, Spectrum Noir markers (CR7, CR9, CR10, CR11), My Mind's Eye Quilting Bee 6x6 paper pad, WPlus9 Pinking Squares die, Hemptique white hemp cord
